I am a licensed Speech-Language pathologist with over 20 years of experience assessing and treating children with communication disorders. I became passionate about learning as much as I could about Anxiety Disorders, when my oldest child was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. A few years later my youngest was diagnosed with Selective Mutism. While there is much known about Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I quickly found out that professionals who typically treat children with Anxiety Disorders, knew little to nothing about Selective Mutism, and were unable to offer us support and resources. A Combination that Works!
For the treatment of SM, I incorporate Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), modified for Selective Mutism, with neurodevelopmental/reflex integration movements. This combination works brilliantly. The movements serve to create new neurological pathways and address the root cause of anxiety related disorders (as well as other developmental delays and disorders), and the behavioral piece (PCIT), facilitates the speaking practice kids with SM need in order to feel comfortable breaking out into new territory.Learn more about this winning combination here
